And when you find ideas on how to prepare them, you will be happy with the simple recipes, according to which the prepared soup will be warm at home and taste.
It can be food and medicine
Autumn vegetable and grain soup is not only a source of satiety, but also a source of low energy in the current season. Maxima’s food production expert, Brigita Baratinskaitė, recommends that this dish be included in the diet as much as possible: the various benefits should support this.
Soup is an important part of daily fluid intake, which is more easily absorbed by the body than fried food, providing the necessary vitamins and minerals.
“In autumn, the air becomes fresher and the immune system is less resistant to colds. However, the warm soup strengthens the body, reducing the chance of getting sick.
This food also facilitates digestion, increases intestinal activity, and activates metabolism. Soup also gives a feeling of satiety, but does not weigh down the stomach.
It is perfect for people who want to lose weight and want to eat healthy. It is also worth considering the benefits of semolina – it is a source of necessary proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, which provide the body with both energy and important substances”, B. Baratinskaitė emphasizes the advantages of soup.
Nobody in Lithuania especially values vegetables and grains, and the demand for these products remains stable every year. According to Ernesta Dapkienė, director of Maxima’s Communication and Image Department, last year, customers’ baskets were mostly potatoes, carrots, kohlrabi, onions, red peppers, broccoli, and zucchini. At that time, Lithuanians’ favorite grocery products were barley and pearl barley, parboiled rice and buckwheat.
“This year, the popularity of the product remained the same. However, onion sales doubled, we sold carrots three times, Lithuanian potato demand increased by almost a tenth, buckwheat by a quarter, and pearl barley by more than ten percentage points.
This is a result of the growing relationship with the country’s farmers and suppliers. We pay special attention to them, guarantee high quality and a wide range of products displayed in the store. Therefore, we offer our customers only fresh and carefully selected vegetables and quality grocery products”, said E. Dapkienė.
It is recommended to cook for a short time
When asked about the benefits of Lithuanian favorite vegetables, B. Baratinskaitė noted that they all contain nutrients and substances necessary for the body.
“Carrots lower cholesterol, are rich in C, which strengthens the immune system, and vitamin A, which is important for good vision. They are very low in calories, activate metabolism and brain activity.
Cabbage also contains a lot of vitamin C and is healthy for the skin, eyes, and heart. They are rich in antioxidants, which even neutralize cancer-causing agents in the body.
At that time, potatoes were a classic traditional Lithuanian dish. Although there are different opinions, nutritionists correct. Scientific studies carried out show that it is a source of prevention of heart disease, blood vessels and heart attacks”, said B. Baratinskaitė.
However, the interviewer emphasized that vegetables can lose some useful nutrients and vitamins when cooking soup. Therefore, nutritionists offer a solution: cook this dish for a short time so that the main ingredients do not have time to soften.
“Such a soup would be more nutritious and tastier.” All that remains is to add vegetables to Lithuanians’ favorite cereal, and the real autumn kitchen glow will steam on the table. Soup supplements with barley and the most popular pearl barley are a good solution. They are cheap and nutritious. For example, pearl barley is rich in dietary fiber, which is the most compared to similar products. They also contain protein, essential carbohydrates, fats, B group vitamins, which have a positive effect on the nervous system,” said the nutritionist about the benefits of wheat.
It offers easy and delicious cooking
Having listed the advantages of autumn vegetable and wheat soups, B. Baratinskaitė advises to try how delicious and easy to prepare this dish can be. Therefore, nutritionists share recipes that will be perfect for those who do not have the idea to prepare such food in the kitchen.
